Digitization of Cultural Treasures: 10 Churches of Drohobychchyna in 3D
and the exhibition “Park of multimedia holograms. Wooden churches of Drohobychchyna”

Drohobychchyna, rich in cultural heritage and history, hides a collection of ancient churches that bear witness to centuries of architectural and religious significance. In order to preserve and document these treasures, a project was initiated to use advanced technology, in particular photogrammetry, to digitize 10 notable churches of the region.

The chosen method of photogrammetry involves obtaining detailed images from different angles and using specialized software to create accurate 3D models. This technology enables the meticulous digitization of architectural nuances, creating virtual replicas to be studied and admired for generations to come.

Significance of the Project for Cultural Heritage

1. Preserving the Treasures of the Past
   The project not only enables the digitization of valuable cultural objects, but also ensures their long-term preservation through the use of 3D modeling and photogrammetry technology. This is especially important because churches are witnesses of history and represent a valuable element of cultural heritage.
2. Availability and Openness to the Public
   Digitized 3D models will make these churches accessible for study and use by a wide range of people. People can study the details of architecture and history without leaving their places of residence. The project is open to everyone who wants to get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Drohobychchyna.
3. Educational Initiative and Research
   This project promotes the development of educational initiatives that allow students, historians and researchers to study more deeply the cultural and architectural aspects of the church’s heritage. Providing access to high-quality 3D models creates opportunities for new research and development of cultural studies disciplines.
4. Antidote to Destruction and Oblivion
   Digitizing churches is an effective means of countering potential destruction or disappearance. Preserving them in digital form avoids the loss of irreplaceable objects and provides a means of combating anti-cultural destruction.
5. Promotion of Tourism and Development of the Region
   This project can contribute to the development of tourism in the region, drawing attention to the cultural wealth of Drohobychchyna. Tourists can use virtual tours to learn about history and architecture, contributing to the development of the local economy and attracting new opportunities.

General Meaning:

This project not only brings cultural heritage to a new level, but also opens up endless possibilities for its preservation, research and popularization. By creating a digital footprint of these churches, we leave a non-exempt contribution to the preservation of the national cultural heritage for future generations.

The digitization of these ancient churches of Drogobych region is a significant step in the preservation of cultural heritage. The use of technology allows these architectural wonders to pass through time and space, contributing to the accumulation of knowledge and increasing awareness of the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine.

We are proud to announce that the latest 3D models of the ancient churches of Drohobychchyna were presented for the first time at an exhibition in Lviv using the exciting technology of holographic fans.

Impressive Presentation and interactive immersion!

Visitors had the opportunity to touch the cultural treasures of Ukraine through the world of holography. 3D models of churches, created using photogrammetry technology, were placed on holographic fans, where every detail came to life before the eyes of the audience.

Visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history and architecture of each church through a 3D virtual world. The holographic fans created the effect of a smooth transition between different angles, giving an amazing visual experience.

7. The creation of 3D Google tours is suspended due to Google’s policy. During martial law, Google banned the publication of panoramas on its map to prevent the use of data from the map by the Russian military. Therefore, the best business solution at the moment is to create a Matterport tour and post it on Google Maps whenever possible.
